Karl Jestrab (born January 12, 1907 , † February 1980 ) was an Austrian football player who won a championship title with SK Rapid Vienna and played an international match for the national team in 1935 .

Club career

Karl Jestrab began his career at Phönix XII and moved to SC Wacker Wien in 1925 , where he made his first appearance in the championship in autumn of that year and was quickly able to secure a regular place in the Meidlinger runners alongside Leopold Resch and Theodor Brinek . In the 1920s, Wacker was a medium-sized company in the top division and did not get past the quarter-finals in the ÖFB Cup either. With the move from Franz Dumser to the black and white team, Jestrab moved into defense in 1929, where he played for the next two years.

At the end of 1931, the player received an offer from the Swiss first division club Servette FC Genève and moved to western Switzerland. In the team supervised by Karl Rappan , however, Jestrab came to play in the unfamiliar striker position at Ignaz Tax's side and after six months he left the club and returned to Vienna.

Here he joined the SK Rapid, where he immediately became a regular player and alternated with Leopold Czejka and Ludwig Tauschek to form the defender pair. After two runner-up titles in a row and a defeat in the 1934 cup final, a title win finally succeeded in the 1934/35 season when Rapid won the championship. Jestrab stayed with the Hütteldorfer until mid-1937 and then moved to the second division club SV Straßenbahn Wien .

At that time, the tram operators had signed a number of notable reinforcements, including Franz Erdl , Josef Hassmann and Johann Luef , but the targeted promotion to the top division did not succeed. In 1941 they won the championship of the Vienna 1st class B, but then failed in the promotion playoff. Apart from one season at SV Donau , Jestrab stayed with the trams, who had meanwhile relegated from the second tier, until 1950 and then ended his career at ASV Wienerberg .

National team

In 1927 Karl Jestrab played in the B national team against Hungary, followed by five games for the Viennese city selection by 1931. His debut in the national team came under somewhat strange circumstances, when in May 1935 the B-team with Jestrab and his team-mate Tauschek played against Poland , while the A-team played against Hungary on the same day . However, the ÖFB later declared both games to be official internationals, so that Jestrab appears as an A-national player in today's statistics.
