We Are the World is an album by the USA for Africa project , released on Columbia Records in April 1985 to raise funds for the victims of the famine in Ethiopia 1984–1985 .

useful information

In addition to the song We Are the World, the album contains nine other recordings by artists involved in the project, including Prince , who was not involved in the title song himself. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed a cover version of Jimmy Cliff 's Trapped , which was recorded live at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey on their Born-in-the-USA tour .

With Tears Are Not Enough , the song of the Canadian sister project Northern Lights was also included. "Executive Producer" was Ken Kragen, Humberto Gatica supervised the album project.

reception

The album sold over three million times. It was number one on the Billboard 200 for three weeks and was also in that position on the Canadian charts for three weeks . Allmusic's Victor W. Valdivia wrote that the album was more significant because of its historical context than because of its musical value. It contains some rarities that are not essential for listeners who are not interested in the artists concerned. Two out of five stars were awarded.
