Northern Lights was a well-known Canadian band that recorded the 1985 benefit song for Africa Tears Are Not Enough . After Great Britain with Band Aid ( Do They Know It's Christmas? ), The USA with USA for Africa ( We Are the World ) and Germany with the Band für Afrika ( Nackt im Wind ) had started similar projects, the Canadians wanted to use it of a song to collect money for Africa .

The song Tears Are Not Enough was written by David Foster (music) and Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance (lyrics). The French text passages are from Rachel Paiement . It was produced by Bruce Allen and David Foster. Was recorded Tears Are Not Enough on 10 February 1985 in the Manta Sound Studios in Toronto , the instrumental part was previously in Vancouver have been added.

Bryan Adams sang Tears Are Not Enough at Live Aid 1985 in Philadelphia and also sang a small passage of this song at Live 8 2005 in Barrie during All for Love , both appearances are included on the respective DVDs .
