Gnarls Barkley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cee-Lo (front) and Danger Mouse (back)

Gnarls Barkley is a music project by the US hip-hop producer Danger Mouse and the singer Cee-Lo Green (member of Goodie-Mob ). It was founded in Georgia in 2005 . The band name is a play on words and is derived from the English verb "to gnarl" (roughly: growl) and the name of the well-known basketball player Charles Barkley , who is visually similar to Cee-Lo.

With their first single, Crazy , the two landed an international hit. It was first chosen as the record of the week by several BBC DJs and then used as a jingle for the show by Zane Lowe , the flagship in the evening program on BBC Radio 1 . In early April 2006, a week before it was released as a single, the song debuted at number 1 on the UK charts. Crazy was the first title to make it to the top of the British single charts (shortly after the corresponding chart rule was changed) solely on the basis of downloads . On September 1, 2006, they received the MTV Video Music Award 2006 twice for their hit Crazy : in the categories Best Direction In A Video and Best Editing In A Video . Crazy is also the theme song for Birdman .

Gnarls Barkley's debut album, St. Elsewhere , was released in Germany on May 26th, 2006. On May 29th, Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo announced that they would take Crazy's maxi CD off the shelf in England with immediate effect. When asked about the reasons, they told the Daily Mirror newspaper that they feared people would get tired of the song. In addition, they want to focus on the second single Smiley Faces , which was released on July 17, 2006.

On April 4, 2008, the follow-up album The Odd Couple was released , but received less commercial attention. The first single was Run (I'm a Natural Disaster) .
