Circle of Life is a song from the movie The Lion King . It was written by Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (text). It was sung by Carmen Twillie . In the German version, the song is called The Eternal Circle and is sung by Jocelyn B. Smith .
Use in film and musical
At the beginning of the film, Circle of Life is played by Rafiki to present the just born Simba. You can hear again towards the end of the film when Simba's daughter is also presented to the other animals, so the 'circle of life' goes into the next round.
In the 1997 musical of the same name , the song is used in a similar way to the film.
Awards
Circle of Life was nominated for the Oscar and the Golden Globe in 1995 for Best Movie Song and lost both times to Can You Feel the Love Tonight , also from The Lion King . At the Grammy Awards , the song won the Best Instrumental Arrangement with Vocal Accompaniment category and was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Film or Television , but lost both times to Streets of Philadelphia from the film Philadelphia .
