The West of the Rockies Tour was a North American tour that British musician and composer Elton John undertook to promote his tenth studio album, Rock of the Westies . During the tour, John appeared in 17 concerts in the USA and Canada .
tour
John and his touring band played for the "West of the Rockies Tour" with five concerts on three evenings from August 25 to 27, 1975 at the Troubadour Nightclub in Los Angeles . This was a special place for John because it was there exactly five years earlier on August 25, 1970 that he began his career in the USA. As a souvenir of his debut concert in this club, the guests received the book Five Years of Fun . Kiki Dee was in one of these shows , with whom he would publish the successful duet Don't Go Breaking My Heart a year later . The performances took place as charity concerts for the Jules Stein Foundation .
The tour itself began on September 29, 1975 at the San Diego Sports Arena and ended on October 25 and 26 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Since the Beatles performed there in 1966 , it was the first time that a rock star was able to fill the stands with his fans. Both evenings began with performances by Emmylou Harris and Joe Walsh . Later on, Billie Jean King , who had dedicated John Philadelphia Freedom , and the 45-member James Cleveland Choir sang on several titles.
These two concerts were the highlight of Elton John Week in Los Angeles. 55,000 guests came to the arena on both nights and the show was filmed for British television. Events also included the ceremony during which John's name was placed on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard near Grauman's Chinese Theater . It was the first time in more than 1,500 such events that it had to be closed to the public. These concerts are probably among his most famous and are seen as a mark of the zenith of his career.
