The 1992 Eric Clapton World Tour [ ˈɛrɪk klæptɒn wɜːld tʊə ] was a year-long concert tour by British rock musician Eric Clapton . The tour began in Brighton on February 1st and ended in Tacoma on September 6th . Like the Journeyman World Tour (1989–1991) and the Clapton-Harrison Tour (1991), this tour was also sold out and a box-office hit for the Briton and his promoter .
Although the concert tour was not titled after a specific album, the setlist shows that Clapton mainly presented the Journeyman and Unplugged albums . Notes on individual appearances
Tour events
Clapton began his tour with 20 appearances in the United Kingdom from February 1 to March 3, 1992. Among them, he played 12 concerts in a row at London's Royal Albert Hall. As far as is known, these concerts were completely sold out. From April 25 to May 25, 1992, 22 concerts followed in the United States. The concert facts published by promoters show that these events have also sold out. From June 14 to July 12, 1992, Clapton returned to Europe for 36 appearances to visit Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, again Great Britain, Switzerland and Italy. The first concerts that Clapton held together with Elton John took place here (June 18, June 19, June 26–28, July 3–4, July 6, July 10, 1992).
Highlights of the tour included appearances at the Hippodrome de Vincennes near Paris (62,593 visitors), the Feyenoord Stadium (48,542) in Rotterdam, the Wembley Stadium in London (240,000 visitors) and the Stade de la Pontaise (38,000 visitors) in Lausanne and at the Stadio Communale (36,750 visitors) in Bologna, which brought the successful British duo more than one million US dollars in revenue per night. The last concert of the European part of the tour was Clapton's second appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux. From August 11 to September 6, 1992, Clapton traveled back to the United States at the end of the tour, to complete the tour with another 14 concerts.
The remaining concerts in the United States were also completely sold out as far as is known. Clapton now played exclusively in arenas and stadiums that could accommodate an audience of over 20,000 visitors. Elton John played four more concerts with Clapton during his tour on August 21 and 22 at Shea Stadium (2 × 61,194 visitors) in Flushing and from August 29 to 30 at Dodger Stadium (2 × 60,087 visitors) in Los Angeles. These concerts were also sold out and grossed more than two million US dollars per concert. With a sold out concert on September 6, 1992 at the Tacoma Dome, the world tour, which brought Clapton more than 42 million US dollars, finally ended.
