The Stade Olympique de la Pontaise is a football stadium in the city of Lausanne , Canton of Vaud . It is the home of the FC Lausanne-Sport football club . The FC Le Mont also contributed its home games during the season 2009/10 from the pontaise.
history
The stadium was built in 1954 and is owned by the city. The audience capacity is 15,786 seats. The stadium has no standing room. Five games were played in the Stade Olympique during the 1954 World Cup , including the “ Heat Battle of Lausanne ”. The annual international athletics event Athletissima also takes place in this stadium . The Lausanne football stadium does not deserve the suffix “Stade Olympique” because the Olympic Games once took place there, but because Lausanne has been the seat of the IOC since 1915 .
In October 2020, the stadium will be replaced by the new football stadium Stade de la Tuilière and then demolished. The athletics events will be moved to the Stade Pierre de Coubertin . In place of the stadium, a new ecological district with 2,000 apartments is to be built as part of the “Métamorphose” project. A referendum that would have prevented this decision was rejected on September 27, 2009 with around 56% of the vote.
