The Brügglifeld stadium is a football stadium in the Swiss municipality of Suhr in the canton of Aargau . It is the home of the FC Aarau football club .

history

In the first 22 years after the club was founded on May 26, 1902, FC Aarau played all home games in the Aarauer Schachen. There were no gates, fences or cloakrooms and had to be set up and dismantled for each game. After the local community of Aarau gave the green light for the construction of a football pitch in Brügglifeld, some members and friends of FC Aarau founded a cooperative to build and finance the facility - today's Brügglifeld court cooperative, consisting of 50 and 50 cooperative members. Peter Gloor has been President since 2012. On October 12, 1924, the newly built Brügglifeld stadium was inaugurated with a friendly match against the reigning Swiss champions FC Zurich .

Nine decades later, the appearance of the stadium has changed significantly. The wooden grandstand in Brügglifeld burned down completely on September 22, 1929, but was rebuilt within two months. In 1982, after about a year of construction, the main grandstand that still exists today was inaugurated. It was followed in the 1990s by an additional grandstand made of tubular steel, which was dismantled in 2010 after relegation to the Challenge League. The standing ramps were completely renovated beforehand, and lawns, drainage systems and the lighting, which over time no longer met the requirements of the television producers, were also replaced. In 2003, the safety fence that had existed for a few years along the standing ramps was dismantled by FCA fans and later replaced by a fan network. Only the guest sector is fenced in due to the requirements of the Swiss Football League.

With regard to the granting of a license to participate in matches in the top Swiss football leagues (Super League and Challenge League), a new solution to the stadium issue has been struggled with since 2002. A project in Schafisheim was discarded early on, rather the first attempts in the Torfeld Süd Aarau since 2008 had seen several retouching. The company HRS responsible for the construction there has a legally valid building permit for a stadium with shell usage. The Brügglifeld stadium will remain in operation until completion (expected in 2020). On the part of the licensing Swiss Football League (SFL), FC Aarau has a special license to participate in matches in the top Swiss football leagues. However, there is a requirement that a club with a special license must play within five years of being promoted to the Super League in a sports facility that meets the requirements without a special license.

Brügglifeld square cooperative

The Platzgenossenschaft Brügglifeld is an amalgamation of 50 members with a capital of 100,000 francs - mostly sympathizers of FC Aarau. The cooperative was launched in 1924 with the construction of the Brügglifeld, co-founder was the father of today's government councilor Urs Hofmann. The cooperative undertakes to maintain the infrastructure of the venue. The owners of the land, which in addition to the stadium also include training grounds and an artificial ice rink, are the residents of Aarau. The cooperative generates income through the maintenance contribution from the city of Aarau, grants from the Swisslos lottery fund and from the income from the perimeter advertising in the stadium, in which it participates. This primarily finances repayments of loans that are necessary, for example, for investments in the lighting system.

Trivia

The Brügglifeld stadium is located in the municipality of Suhr , but the landowner is the local community of Aarau.
