The Shape You're In is a rock song written by Eric Clapton and released on Money and Cigarettes in 1983 .

Clapton starts the intro of the piece with a riff in E and A major on electric guitar and western guitar . In between he plays a few guitar passages in E major. The refrain alternates between E major, G major, A major and D major. In the middle of the piece, Clapton and Albert Lee take turns doing some short guitar solos .

The single reached number 75 on the British charts in 1983. In Ireland, the single positioned itself at number 30 and stayed in the charts for a week.

The song also appeared on the compilation album Crossroads .
