Sessions for Robert J is Eric Clapton's 16th studio album and was released in 2004. The album pays homage to Robert Johnson . In addition, a DVD and EP of the same name was released.

This album contains further and unchanged recordings of the Me and Mr. Johnson sessions: From Four 'Til Late , Terraplane Blues , Ramblin' on My Mind , Sweet Home Chicago and Stones in My Passway . In addition, other versions of the songs were recorded in the acoustic duet of Clapton and Bramhall II in the 508 Park Avenue building in Dallas , where Johnson had recorded his songs in 1937. Two of the acoustic interpretations and two electric guitar recordings can be found on the EP.

reception

Allmusic critic Thom Jurek praised the acoustic interpretation of Terraplane Blues as the "best" track on the album. He awarded three out of five possible rating units for the album. CANOE's Darryl Sterdan favored the recordings of the sessions for Robert J over those on Me and Mr. Johnson . The album peaked at # 1 on the top blues album charts and placed 172 on the Billboard 200 . In Austria the album was ranked 74th.
