The History of Eric Clapton is a compilation by British rock musician Eric Clapton and was released in March 1972 under the labels Polydor in Great Britain and Atco Records in the USA.
Content and useful information
There are various Clapton recordings on the album, including a. with The Yardbirds , Cream , Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos , from 1964 to 1970. The History of Eric Clapton made Clapton better known during his heroin addiction and made his song Layla a mega hit. The versions of the song Tell The Truth released on the compilation differ from those that appeared on Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970. The title, Tell the Truth , published here is a faster rendition of the song and was originally released in July 1970. Tell the Truth - Jam has a significantly slower tempo, comes from the Layla sessions and had not appeared before. On the album released in the United States, the song Tales of Brave Ulysses was replaced by Tribute to Elmore . The piece pays homage by Clapton and Jimmy Page to the American blues musician Elmore James . The picture on the album cover was taken at the Concert for Bangladesh while Clapton played the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps on a Gibson Byrdland . The album is considered to be the first ever published compilation of rock music , which includes tracks from different bands, periods, music genres and record labels, from a single artist.
