Catch the Blues is a soft rock song by British rock musician Eric Clapton and was released by Polydor Records in 2016 .

Publication and music

The single was on 16 May 2016, following Can not Let You Do It and Stones in My Passway as the third single from the album I Still Do decoupled. The title was simultaneously available on music streaming platforms such as MySpace , Spotify and Rhapsody , but was also made available as a digital music download from Amazon .

The piece consists of an intro in the key of F sharp minor and is followed by a verse in the same key. The earlier, shortened refrain was composed by Clapton in the key of B minor . Another verse follows, which is then enclosed with a pre-chorus. The actual refrain is in the key of C major . This is followed by verse, pre-chorus and chorus until the piece ends with an outro in the starting key of F sharp minor.

Criticism

The journalist Dietmar Schwenger from the magazine MusikWoche thinks that the "Latin feeling interspersed with acoustic piece [other titles on the album] contrasts pleasantly". Critic Max Fellmann from the Süddeutsche Zeitung says that the Briton uses a wah-wah effect device to complete the guitar during the piece and that he “plays the quiet guitar exactly like his late friend” JJ Cale . "But the bad discreet Salsa - Groove and Schubidu Choir" are boring: "Something like this also allow hotel managers with a penchant for beige (and Eames Chairs ) in the hotel lobby run". Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine describes the title together with the Clapton original Spiral as "handmade songs that complete the rest of the album [...]". Rolling Stone's critic Will Hermes praised Clapton's singing and light-heartedness in the song. Jon M. Gilbertson from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also praised the gentle atmosphere of the song and chose the piece the best song on the album I Still Thu .
