Live from Madison Square Garden is a double-CD and DVD - Live album by Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood . It was released on May 19, 2009 under the Reprise Records label . It was recorded in New York's Madison Square Garden February 25-28, 2008. The duo presented a selection of songs from Blind Faith , Traffic and Derek and the Dominos , as well as pieces from Clapton and Winwood's solo career.

After breaking up with Blind Faith in 1969, Clapton and Winwood stopped playing together until 1998. They both made a guest appearance in the film Blues Brothers 2000 , but did not play together again until Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007. After this collaboration proved successful, they decided a year later to go on tour and release the album. On February 11, 2009, a 14-city US tour was announced that began on June 10, 2009. The band consisted of Clapton, Winwood, Weeks as bassist, Stainton on keyboard, Abe Laboriel, Jr. and Sharon White as drummers and Michelle John as backing vocalists . The concert was broadcast by 3sat and other German television stations in 2009, 2010 and 2012 .
Recording, production and artwork
James Towler was responsible for the recording and mixing of the album and the DVD, while the production was taken over by James Pluta, John McDermott, Scooter Weintraub and their executive producers John Beug, Michael Eaton, Peter Jackson and Tom Whalley. The CD and DVD were designed by Ellen Wakayama in collaboration with designer Donny Phillips and photographer Danny Clinch.

Reception and awards
Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the album as a "satisfactory, if not surprising, reunion". He praised the musical skills of the two artists. He awarded a total of three and a half of the possible five rating units for the album. The album reached number eight in the German charts . In Austria and Switzerland the recording was placed 25th and 33rd. In the UK the album was 40th. In the United States the album was ranked 14th on the Billboard 200 and 14th on the top Internet album. Charts. The album and the DVD were awarded a gold record by the BVMI in Germany .
