Life

In 1956 he found himself with Buddy Holly and Joe B. Mauldin to form Crickets. Soon they started to take part in local dance events and competitions and made their first recordings. After the band began working with Norman Petty , Allison wrote the song Peggy Sue with Holly and Petty , which became their most successful single; the song is about Allison's wife, Peggy Sue, whom he then married.

After Holly broke up with the Crickets and was killed in a plane crash in 1959, Allison ran the Crickets. They continued to record albums and singles, some of which made it into the American charts. Allison also released two solo singles in the late 1950s, on which Holly can be heard as a studio musician. Apart from Allison and Mauldin, the band has changing members. In 1970 he appeared on Eric Clapton's solo debut.

In 2016, Rolling Stone listed Allison as 44th of the 100 best drummers of all time .
