Lay Down Sally is a country rock song written by Eric Clapton , Marcella Detroit and George Terry and released on Clapton's album Slowhand on November 25, 1977 .

A live interpretation of the piece can be found on the 1980 album Just One Night . It has also appeared on numerous compilation albums such as Timepieces: The Best of Eric Clapton (1982), Backtrackin ' (1984), The Cream of Clapton (1995) and Complete Clapton (2007).

Sound and style

The original recording took place at Olympic Studios in London . Clapton and his band wanted to play and record the song JJCale style . Seeing the Tulsa cast as "the ultimate musical clan," Clapton also brought Carl Radle , Jamie Oldaker , Dick Sims , George Terry, and Yvonne Elliman to the recording sessions. Clapton later stated:

Cover versions
