German Pali Society

The German Pali Society (DPG) was a Buddhist society in Germany that existed from January 1909 to August 1913 . It was founded by Walter Markgraf and Karl Seidenstücker in Breslau on the model of the British Pali Text Society with the aim of researching Buddhism in general and the dissemination of Buddhist texts in Germany.

From 1909 on the DPG u. a. published the first two volumes of the Anguttara-Nikaya translated by Nyanatiloka .

The DPG issued a magazine entitled “ India and the Buddhist World; German magazine for the entire field of Buddhism and Indian culture ” .

After Karl Seidenstücker withdrew from the company in 1911, work came to a standstill in 1913.

Honorary members were u. a. TW Rhys Davids (founder of the Pali Text Society) and Ananda Metteyya , the first German monk in the Buddhist community .
