Back Home is Eric Clapton's 17th studio album . It was released in 2005. There are six new songs and six cover versions on the album.

background

The album was produced over five years. At this stage, Clapton married Melia McEnery and gave birth to several daughters. It was also the first studio album after the death of his friend George Harrison in November 2001. As a tribute to him, Clapton Harrison's 1979 song Love Comes to Everyone was a cover version. After several blues-heavy productions, this album again features a wide range of styles. This ranges from rhythm and blues with So Tired , rocky boogie with Lost And Found , reggae with Revolution , the soultitle Piece Of My Heart to echoes of folk music with the theme song Back Home . The dual-disc version includes an interview with Clapton, five video recordings from the studio, and four picks labeled Back Home , signed by Clapton.

Reception and awards

In its review, laut.de found the album to be unexciting, but technically well done: “About as exciting as“ Painting by Numbers ”. The man wants to make music - and nothing else. As a full professional and idol ... he sits down and easily lets his songs ripple from the guitar. Flawlessly and perfectly arranged. Unfortunately, this serenity goes hand in hand with a certain irrelevance. ”Lukas Heinser from Plattentests.de praised the album:“ This time there are no ingratiating electro beats and overproductions like with Pilgrim , this time Clapton is with full clarity on the matter. When the title track then reflects in a relaxed manner about life on the road and Clapton is happy to finally be “Back Home” again, the listener will feel at home again. ” Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the album as“ ideal for a Sunday afternoon with his family". He awarded two out of five possible assessment units for Back Home . The album reached number two in the German album charts and placed fourth and fifth in Switzerland and Austria. Back Home occupied position 19 in the British album charts. The album also reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 and the top Internet album charts in 2005. The album was awarded a gold record in Japan and the USA and sold more than 600,000 copies worldwide.
