The piece is in the original key of F sharp major. The German music author Anke Busch describes Clapton's guitar work on the piece as “fabulous” and thinks that the short striking of the guitar strings gives the song a “ funky ” and “ Bob Marley- like” style. She also praises Clapton's vocal work: "That the blues man can sing emotionally and aggressively at the same time, he proves especially on Revolution", says Busch. Busch also noted worldwide downloads of 42,300. In addition to the single and album release in 2005, the title appears on the double album Road to Escondido / Back Home from 2008 and on the compilation Forever Man .
