Tour events

The tour began on May 1, 2015 with a concert in New York's Madison Square Garden, followed by a second on May 3. From May 14th to 23rd, Clapton performed 7 concerts in London's Royal Albert Hall. All concerts were sold out within a very short time, with a high ticket price for rock music events , which also exceeded single ticket prices of 2,000 euros. As opening act occurred Andy Fairweather Low and his Low Riders. Eric Clapton surprised his fans during the concerts by bringing guest musicians such as Derek Trucks , Doyle Bramhall II , Jimmie Vaughan and John Mayer to the stage and using a Fender Stratocaster similar to Brownie .

The two concert visits by Kim Jong-chol , brother of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in London , caused a media stir . At the end of his last concert, Clapton went to the microphone and said it had been "a fantastic but tough week" for him. He ended his tour with the saying “we'll see each other again sometime”.

During all concerts Clapton was accompanied as guitarist and singer by Nathan East on bass , Steve Gadd on drums , Chris Stainton on keyboards and Paul Carrack on Hammond organ . Backing vocals were performed by Michelle John and Sharon White.

reception

Yahoo Music's music journalist Nekesa Mumbi Moody praised the first concert at Madison Square Garden, highlighting Clapton's guitar playing especially during I Shot the Sheriff , Crossroads , Layla and Cocaine . Moody also describes Clapton's performance with Jimmie Vaughan from Before You Accuse Me as "majestic". According to Kai Wichelmann from Rolling Stone , Clapton entered the stage "without frills and without a birthday cake or previous speakers [... and] rocked through". Tears in Heaven “became [Clapton] perhaps the most touching moment of the [first] evening,” says Wichelmann.

New York Times reviewer Nate Chinen was positive about both nights in New York City, summarizing that Clapton was neither excited nor superficial and gave viewers a cozy evening full of excitement. Telegraph.co.uk's critic James Hall thinks that Clapton played his London concerts technically flawlessly, but was also a little too backward. He awarded 3 out of 5 possible points for the concerts.
