Backless is Eric Clapton's sixth studio album . It was released in November 1978 and was also released on CD in 1990.

Reception and awards

The music website Allmusic awarded 3.5 stars out of five for the album. Critic William Ruhlmann praised Clapton's game, but there was a lack of innovative ideas: “Of course, Clapton's blues game was excellent. However, there was a lack of new, more memorable material. ”The album reached number eight on the Billboard 200 and number 18 on the British album charts. In Austria, the album was in 24th place.

In 1978, the single Promises reached number 82 on the Billboard Country Charts . A year later it reached number nine and 37 on the US and British singles charts and number 6 on the adult contemporary charts. The single Watch out for Lucy placed 40th on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the charts for seven weeks. The album sold more than 1.16 million copies worldwide.
