Sedat Simavi
Sedat Simavi (born January 1, 1896 in Istanbul , † December 11, 1953 ibid) was a Turkish publisher , journalist , caricaturist , writer and director . His pseudonym was Paramparça . In 1948 he was the founder of the Turkish-language daily Hürriyet .
Life
Simavi came from respected families on her father's and mother's side; his father was the governor of Samsun . He first attended the multilingual Saint Joseph Fransız Lisesi school in the Kadıköy district on the Asian side of Istanbul. Later he went to the renowned Galatasaray High School until 1912 .
He was a cartoonist at a young age. After finishing school he worked as a teacher for a few years . During the First World War he made films for national defense (Müdafaa-i Milliye Cemiyeti). The productions Pençe and Casus from 1917 are among the first full-fledged films in Turkey. During this time he published the political satirical magazines Hande (1916) and Diken (1918) as well as the progressive women's magazine Inci (1919). Later he was responsible for various magazines for women, fashion, health, satire and cinema such as Dersaadet (1920), Payitaht (1920), Güleryüz (1921), Hacıyatmaz (1921), Hanim (1921), Resimli Gazete (1923), Yildiz (1924), Meraklı Gazete (1926), Yeni Kitap (1927) and Arkadaş (1928). He subsequently published the popular magazines Yedigün (from 1933) and Karagöz (from 1935).
In 1946 he was one of the founders of the Turkish Association of Journalists and was its first chairman from 1946 to 1949. In 1948 he was the founder of the Turkish daily newspaper Hürriyet with an initial circulation of 30,000 copies, for which he worked as editor and lead article . After his death, his sons Haldun and Erol continued to run the newspaper. Today it is considered the most influential newspaper in the country.
In addition, Simavi worked as a writer. He published u. a. a novel and several plays.

The Sedat-Simavi Prize has been awarded in various categories in his honor since 1977 .
