Reception and chart successes

Allmusic critic Steve Leggett finds this compilation to be a very good representation of Clapton's life and musical career. Finally, he awarded 3.5 of the 5 possible rating points for the album. Ryan Book of The Music Times thinks the compilation is too specific and that those who don't want to be lost in Clapton's career in over 50 years should try The Cream of Clapton .

The compilation album was number 114 on the Billboard 200 and remained in the US album charts for a total of two weeks.
