January 7, 1992 Tears in Heaven

Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack RUSH is a soundtrack - album of British rock musician Eric Clapton . It was released in January 1992 under the Reprise Records label. All pieces were used from December 1991 in the film Feverhaft - Undercover in der drug hell (Rush) .

background

After his four-year-old son died, Clapton began composing songs on an old acoustic guitar . One of them was his biggest hit, Tears in Heaven . Clapton says the song is about the loss portrayed in the film and not about his son. The album was so successful because he had the opportunity to work with many musicians on his Journeyman World Tour and 24 Nights . On December 18, 1991, Clapton presented the soundtrack in Hollywood .

Criticism

As Harald Kepler wrote in his review for Stereo , he felt the accidental death of Clapton's son resonate in the “simple” songs, which proved that Clapton not only played the blues, but “had” it. He awarded 8 out of 10 possible points.

Andreas Obst refrained from a rating in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , since film music has a “functional determination” and it “would be unfair to measure Eric Clapton by these [...] recordings”.

Allmusic critic Steven McDonald finds the soundtrack "excellent" and praises the fact that the release offers "much more than other film soundtracks", since "Clapton's heart and intensity can be felt on the album". The guitarist was "rarely better than here". He awarded 3 out of 5 points for the album.

Critic David King calls the work the "soundtrack of the century".
