Career

Nathan East grew up as one of seven children in a musical family. His two younger brothers James and Marcel are also professional musicians.

Nathan started playing the cello as the first instrument. At the age of 14 he switched to the electric bass. He usually plays this in the 5- or 6-string version. Every now and then he can also be heard as a (background) singer.

In the course of his career, East played the role of Leland Sklar as a live bassist for various artists . In the late 1990s he played with Phil Collins on the Live and Loose Tour, after Sklar was a permanent member of his live band for years. On Collins' farewell tour (The First Farewell Tour), Sklar finally played bass again. After Sklar replaced the sick bassist Mike Porcaro at Toto in 2007 , East again took on the role of Sklar on Toto's short tours from 2010 to 2013. He is also on bass on the "Toto Live In Poland - 35th Anniversary" recording.
