Get Lucky is a song of the French House - Formation Daft Punk and the US singer and rapper Pharrell Williams .
History of origin
It took 18 months to create the song. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo began developing a chord progression and an organ motif. They commissioned the jazz drummer Omar Hakim and the jazz bassist Nathan East to record the rhythm section. Then Nile Rodgers played the guitar part in the Lady Land Studios in Manhattan. Pharrell Williams traveled to Paris to develop a melody and record his singing.
Instead of an internet campaign, the single was announced with billboards. This was followed by excerpts from the television show Saturday Night Live and finally a video message at the Coachella Festival .
reception
Pitchfork editor Andy Beta rated “Best New Track” and ascribes the elegance of the song to Nile Rodgers. Rodgers lively and timeless guitar riff the troubled lines imitate, with whom he 1979 We Are Family by Sister Sledge had contributed.
For Popmatters.com, Barry Lenser criticized Williams' sometimes dull and chunky vocals in the verses, although he shines on the chorus. Daft Punk compensated for this with powerful voices alienated by a vocoder to remind everyone who was doing the show.
The editors of the Laut.de e-zine voted the song the best song of the year and wrote:
“Daft Punk came up with the brilliant idea of teaching their robots funk steps and got Nile Rodgers on board to do this. Nile, the guitar god Johnny Marr, who was the godfather of his son's name. So much for the multiple influences of the legendary Rodgers guitar. The fact that Pharrell then added an irrevocable hit melody made the thing really round. Lose yourself to dance, everybody "
Also in the year hit list of the New Musical Express occupied Get Lucky the first place.

Edits
The song was edited a short time after its release many other artists and as a remix or cover newly interpreted . The media service Meedia wrote at the end of June 2013 that there were “over a million entries on cover versions of 'Get Lucky' on YouTube ”. Three adaptations in particular met with a particularly positive response: On the one hand, a version made up of speeches by US President Barack Obama on the YouTube channel baracksdubs, which was viewed several million times within a few days and linked and described by major online media. On the other hand, a video by PV Nova entitled "Evolution of Get Lucky", in which the song has been played in chronological order in the style of the individual decades since 1920. Questlove and Captain Kirk Douglas of The Roots covered the piece on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in the style of Simon & Garfunkel , ending it with a quote from The Boxer . George Barnett's reinterpretation of the title also achieved several million clicks on YouTube within a very short time. The Austrian band Russkaja also covered Get Lucky on their EP Barada and published a short video on YouTube. The Argentine comedy duo "Dame Guita" with the title "Despiertos para ponerla" (literally: "Those who got up to sit down"). According to the interpreters, the version was created for fun at a typical Argentine guitarrera (guitar jam session) at a friend's celebration as an adaptation to the Argentine folklore style "Chacarera". The idea followed to make a video in which Daft Punk in their characteristic robotic masks meet two gauchos in the Argentine pampas, get to know each other better and finally become friends. The satirical video (like the Argentine version of the text) is peppered with numerous clichés about the Argentine gauchos, but also impressively shows the self-irony, the hospitality and the special wit of the Argentines.
Chart placements
In May 2013 Get Lucky reached number one in the German charts . The single also reached the top position in the German airplay charts . The song reached the top position in the single charts in numerous other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Hungary. In addition, the song was at the top of the US dance charts for 13 weeks, which was a new record at the time. However, Get Lucky had to give up the record again at the end of the year when Wake Me Up from Avicii exceeded the number and even brought it to 26 number one weeks.
