Homework ( German: homework ) is the debut album by the French house duo Daft Punk . It was released on January 20, 1997. Today the album is an influential classic of electronic dance music .

Origin and style

The album included u. a. almost all Maxis published on Soma so far. Especially the singles Around the World , Revolution 909 and Da Funk were international successes. Homework is characterized by a disrespectful handling of the house genre, punk influences, distorted samples and other experiments. The album is considered to be the major influence on house music from 1997-2001 and the origin of the filter house genre.

With the visual staging of the music, the directors Michel Gondry for Around the World , Spike Jonze for Da Funk and Roman Coppola for Revolution 909 were engaged. Thomas and Guy-Man then produced the video clip for Fresh on their own.

Among the artists who produced remixes for Daft Punk are illustrious names such as Masters at Work ( Around the World ), Ian Pooley ( Burnin ) and Armand van Helden ( Da Funk ).

The project was enriched in 1999 by a DVD / VHS called DAFT - A Story about Dogs, Androids, Firemen and Tomatoes and consisting of a collection of the previously published video clips with additional material and a live recording.
