Tron: Legacy is a soundtrack album by the French house duo Daft Punk for the film Tron: Legacy . The album was released on December 6, 2010 on Walt Disney Records .

Emergence

When director Joseph Kosinski asked Daft Punk whether the duo wanted to contribute the soundtrack to the film, there was neither a script nor was it certain that the film would even be shot. At the time of the inquiry, Daft Punk was on tour and it took over a year for the artists to agree on whether to make the soundtrack. The decisive factor for the acceptance was that Kosinski worked with Steven Lisberger , director of the first Tron film from 1982, and that Jeff Bridges could be won as the lead actor. With the songwriting Daft Punk began in 2008, when they had seen the first drafts of the artistic concept, the script was not finished. The role of Jeff Bridges reminded Daft Punk of the movie The Ten Commandments and the musicians tried to combine this image with electronic music and science fiction soundtracks of the 1970s. The recordings for the album began in Los Angeles in early 2009 and took place with the help of an 85-member orchestra. The orchestral arrangements come from Joseph Trapanese, who made them based on synthesizer tracks that Daft Punk made available to him. The orchestral recordings, conducted by Trapanese, took place over five days in July 2010 at Air Lyndhurst Studios in London .

The album was released on December 6, 2010 in Germany and the United States on Walt Disney Records . All pieces were composed by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter . On April 8, 2011, Tron Legacy: R3C0NF1GUR3D ( Leetspeak for Reconfigured) was released, a compilation of remixes by various artists. The album sold around 70,000 times in the US in the first week.

Allmusic's Heather Phares notes that Daft Punk's music is adopting the film's new approach, which is darker and more serious than the first film from 1982. The pieces sound more like modern classical music than the disco sounds fans of the group may have expected, and Phares has no doubt that the album marks a turning point for daft punk.

Alexander Cordas from the online magazine laut.de writes that Daft Punk combined classical and electronic music with a "hardly thought possible finesse". He praised the fact that, unlike other soundtracks, the album could be heard in one piece and that the music carried the listener "into a crazy, darkly threatening cyber fairy tale world".

The website Metacritic calculated a slightly positive average impression of 71 points from 27 reviews from English-language media who viewed the soundtrack individually.

The score was almost exclusively praised by film critics. Often described as matching the pictures perfectly, the soundtrack was one of the most important positive aspects of the film for many moviegoers.
