Life

During his studies at MIT , Lisberger attended a presentation of the MAGI / Synthavison (Mathematics Application Group, Inc.) computer system in 1975 . The head of the company, Phil Mittleman, presented computer animations for 17 minutes for advertising purposes, and Lisberger was immediately fascinated by the possibilities. When he saw the computer game Pong , he thought of a story that should take place in a computer, based on Spartacus , one of his favorite films. Before that, he made the animated film The Jungle Olympics (Animalympics) in 1980 , the success of which was rather low because of the US boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . From April to July 1981 he turned his dream project Tron with money from the Disney studios . With a budget of US $ 17 million , the film grossed just US $ 33 million in the US ( ET ran at the same time and broke all box office records), but has long been considered a cult film among genre fans . Two more feature films followed in the 1980s: Mr. Alligator ... See You Later ( Hot Pursuit ) with John Cusack and Slipstream with Mark Hamill . After that it was quiet about Steven Lisberger, the long announced sequel to Tron initially ended with his participation as the computer game Tron 2.0 for PC and Xbox . In 2010 the Tron sequel Tron: Legacy ran in the cinema, Lisberger acts here as a producer and co-scriptwriter.
