The Marèges dam ( French Barrage de Marèges ) is a dam on the Dordogne near Liginiac in the Corrèze ( Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ) and Saint-Pierre in the Cantal ( Nouvelle-Aquitaine ) department, France. It was built in 1935 to generate electricity. By the dam one is the reservoir of 47 million dammed m³. The dam is located in the Massif Central , downstream of the Barrage de Bort-les-Orgues and upstream of the "Barrage de l'Aigle".
history
The arch dam was built from 1932 to 1935 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi railway company and has a height of 89.50 meters above the foundation. The engineer and arch dam specialist André Coyne from the École polytechnique planned the structure. The inauguration took place on October 5, 1935 in the presence of Henri Queuille and the directors of the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans .
Hydroelectric power plant
The dam was built primarily to generate energy. There are four Francis turbines for a flow rate of (each?) 60 m³ / s on the right side (Liginiac) and another for a flow rate of 190 m³ / s on the left side (Saint-Pierre). The operator is the Société hydroélectrique du Midi (SHEM). According to various sources, the maximum output of the hydropower plant is 128 or 146 megawatts. Approximately 310 GWh are generated annually , with which around 66,000 households are supplied.
Others
The dam is shown on a postage stamp with a value of 1 franc from 1943/44.
