The Barrage de Bort-les-Orgues ( German "Stauwerk von Bort-les-Orgues") is a French dam , which is located on the border of the Corrèze ( Nouvelle-Aquitaine region ) and Cantal ( Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region ) . The structure dams the upper reaches of the Dordogne north of Bort-les-Orgues to the Lac de Bort-les-Orgues reservoir of the same name . This is 21 kilometers long and extends into the Puy-de-Dôme department . The facility was built between 1942 and 1952 and is one of the largest in France.

The reservoir is used as a hydropower plant to generate electricity and is designed for an output of approx. 240 MW. The facility is operated by Électricité de France (EDF).
Attractions
On the eastern bank, not far from Bort-les-Orgues, is the Val castle .
