Authorship and Inclusion
Written and produced was Da Funk by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo was added the song as a home recording in the so-called Daft House in Paris.
Publications
Da Funk was first released in 1995 by the Soma label as a maxi single ( B-side : Rollin '& Scratchin' ). The success of this single, her second, helped Daft Punk to a record deal with the Virgin label , which re-released the song as a single in 1996 (B-side: Musique ).
The same label released Daft Punk's debut album Homework in 1997 , on which Da Funk can also be heard; the album closes with Funk Ad - a 50-second long, reverse-played sample by Da Funk .
Music video
The music video for Da Funk was staged by Spike Jonze : The protagonist is a talking, upright dog named Charles, who is hobbling through New York City with a leg and a crutch in a cast. In his paw he holds a boom box from which Da Funk rattles.
Charts and reception
Da Funk reached 7th place in the French singles charts as the highest position.
Music website Pitchfork Media ranks Da Funk 18th on “The Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s”.
