Ahmir Khalib Thompson (born January 20, 1971 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ), better known under his pseudonyms Questlove or ? Uestlove , is an American drummer and producer of many hip-hop and soul artists . He is the co-founder and drummer of the hip-hop band The Roots .

Live and act

Thompson founded the band "The Square Roots" in 1987 while he was attending the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, with the rapper Tariq Trotter ( Black Thought ), later just "The Roots". With rapper Malik B., keyboardist Scott Storch and double bass player Josh Abrams , they began touring Europe in 1992 and recorded their first album. Thompson then founded the production team The Grand Negaz , including Black Thought and James Poyser. In a similar line-up, it was replaced shortly after by The The Grand Wizzards . As a member of the Roots, he was part of the ensemble of the NBC TV show "Late Night" and has been part of the Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon since 2014 . The Rolling Stone listed it in 2016 to rank 54 of the 100 best drummers of all time .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
