Slum Village is a hip hop group from Detroit , Michigan. It was founded by rappers Baatin, T3 and producer / rapper J Dilla . After Dilla left the group in 2002 to work on his solo projects, the rapper Elzhi , who is also from Detroit, joined the group. After Dilla died in 2006 of complications from his lupus disease, co-founder Baatin was also found dead in his apartment in 2009 due to circumstances that are still unexplained to this day. Elzhi left the group again in 2010 to be able to devote himself, like Dilla before, to his solo projects. After that, the one-person group became quiet until producer Young RJ and Dilla's younger brother Illa J joined the group.
