Dwele (born February 14, 1978 in Detroit ; real name Andwele Gardner ) is an American soul singer, musician, songwriter and producer.

Career

First success had Dwele in 2002 as a guest on the single Tainted by Slum Village . His debut album Subject was released in the summer of 2003 on Virgin Records. It contains his only solo hit to date in the official US charts, Find a Way . His second album Some Kinda ... appeared in October 2005 and included the single I Think I Love U . Dwele can be heard on the records by Slum Village and J Dilla.

Multi-instrumentalist Dwele recorded guitar, bass, piano and even the brass arrangements himself on his albums. He cites Donny Hathaway , Miles Davis , Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder as inspiration .

As a guest at Kanye West's Flashing Lights , he reached the top 40 of the singles charts for the first time, not only in the USA but also in Great Britain. In summer 2008, his third album … Sketches of a Man made it into the top 40 in the USA for the first time.
