Wake Me Up (also Wake Me Up ! , English for: wake me up) is a song by the Swedish DJ and music producer Avicii , sung by the US soul singer Aloe Blacc and whose accompaniment is played on acoustic guitar by Mike Einziger . The song was released in June 2013, initially as a single and later as the first song from Avicii's debut album True , which was released in Germany on September 13, 2013.
Avicii first performed the song at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami . With the worldwide release of the single he achieved great success. Wake Me Up rose to number 1 in the charts in many European and English-speaking countries and was chosen as the "summer anthem" by Variance Magazine.
At the beginning of March 2014, the song on music streaming provider Spotify became the first track to exceed 200 million streaming views. In December 2014, Wake Me Up was the first single in Germany to be awarded a diamond record for over one million copies sold. This makes the song one of the best-selling singles in Germany .

In an interview with the British tabloid Daily Star , Avicii said that Wake Me Up! In a conversation with MTV UK he had previously called it a "fun experiment" that he still needed a singer and text writer. Linkin Park rapper Mike Shinoda suggested Aloe Blacc, who accepted immediately and finished the text the next day. He had previously developed the melody in collaboration with Mike Einziger.
Music video
On June 28, 2013, a lyric video was released and the next day the real music video, which was filmed on the Santa Clara River and in the city of Piru, California , among other places . The main actress in the video is the Russian model Kristina Romanova. The little girl is played by Laneya Grace. The video includes cross-promote Denim & Supply by Ralph Lauren and the Sony Xperia Z .
Chart placements
In July 2013, Wake Me Up reached number one in the German single charts and remained unchallenged for ten weeks. In the German airplay charts , the single also reached the top position for eight weeks . At the end of the year, the single took first place in the German single annual charts and second behind Let Her Go ( Passenger ) in the annual airplay charts. The song reached the top position in the single charts in numerous other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary . In the US dance charts, the song took the top position on September 21, 2013 and stayed there for 26 weeks. That meant not only a record, but surpassed the most successful song to date ( Get Lucky by Daft Punk ) by a factor of two.
