Through concerts alone and without support from broadcasting on radio or television, the album reached ninth place in the charts in Australia in March 2012. Let Her Go , which was released as a single, reached the top of the charts in Australia. Six months later, the song spilled over to Europe when it was broadcast on Dutch radio, and from October 2012 it was able to stay on the charts in the Netherlands for 24 weeks and make it to the top. The song can be heard in the film Fack Ju Göhte .

content

The refrain is central : “And you let her go.” The lyrics , which are based around this central statement, describe the emotional state during the phase of a separation in a relationship with a woman. The author couldn't bond with her. He was not ready to indulge this love, and by letting it go, he realized that it had become a true love. In his depressed mood, his dejection, he realized with closed eyes that this love developed slowly and quickly passed, "'Cause love comes slow, and it goes so fast." The song describes the inner dialectic of closeness and distance, of love and separation or separation pain. "'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low; Only miss the sun when it starts to snow; Only know you love her when you let her go. ”As long as he lived the relationship, he could not see and enjoy its value. So that his summary : “Only know you love her when you let her go; And you let her go ”, describes how you only know your love when you let it go.

reception

Steffen Rüth from the Mainpost classifies the “small, friendly, melancholy folk-pop song” stylistically somewhere “between Ed Sheeran and James Blunt ”. The Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation covered the song for the special edition of their album Hydra .
