Folktronica

Folktronica (also: Electrofolk ) describes a musical sub-genre that represents a fusion of electronica and folk , whereby the opening can take place from both styles.

The term was coined in the late 1990s, presumably first by the British press in reference to the musician Kieran Hebden ( Four Tet ). In 2001 the album Folktronica by the postmodern artist Momus was released , on which he satirically deals with the new genre. The term probably found widespread use at the latest in 2007 with the commercial breakthrough of Patrick Wolf's album The Magic Position .
