Fridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fridge is a British band formed in 1994 by school friends Kieran Hebden , Adem Ilhan and Sam Jeffers in Putney , England . The music is purely instrumental and based on guitar, bass, electronics and drums.

Band history

Through his acquaintance with Trevor Jackson, the founder of the Output Recordings label , the debut album Ceefax was released in 1996 . Singles and Maxis appear in loose succession (including Lojen , Angelpoised , Lign , Orko and Distance ). Various remixes , for example for David Holmes , Kennicke and Badly Drawn Boy, bear the signature of Kieran Hebden.

The 1998 album Semaphore continues Ceefax's approach . The London-based Dempsey is supported by Fridge on the recordings for the album Sunrise / Sunset as studio musician, and Kieran Hebden as producer ; for the indie pop singer Badly Drawn Boy they are a live backing band on his US tour in 1999.

After releasing the singles and Maxis on a double CD Seventh and Twelves in 1998, Fridge switched from Output Recordings to Go! Beat and released the album EPH in 1999 there. The album Happiness was released in 2001. Some of the titles exceed the 10-minute mark. The style plurality and variety of instruments that begin with EPH are expanded to include Happiness .

In May 2007 the fifth album entitled "The Sun" was released after a six-year break. The arrangements are much less electronic here, rhythm section and guitar come to the fore again.

Kieran Hebden publishes the work of his solo project under the name Four Tet and has collaborated with drummer Steve Reid since 2005 . Adem Ilhan has released two solo albums as Adem so far.

style

Due to the combination of post-rock elements, electronics, minimalism and jazz, the band is compared to Tortoise , Ui , Mogwai and The Dylan Group .
