Juana Molina (* 1961 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine singer-songwriter .

Life

At fifteen, Molina and her family moved from Argentina to Paris . She later returned to Buenos Aires and began studying there, but dropped out.

She first appeared in public in 1988 when she appeared as an actress on the program La Noticia Rebelde . She became known through her collaboration with comedian Antonio Gasalla . This fame made it possible for her to have her own comedy show, Juana y sus hermanas , which was popular throughout Latin America.

When she got pregnant in 1994, she started thinking about quitting her acting career and making music instead.

In 1996 Molina released her first album as a musician. She sings in Río-de-la-Plata Spanish and mostly with the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar , but also with electronic elements ( Folktronica ). In addition to Larks' tongues in Aspic by King Crimson and Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin , which both impressed her as a child , she names mainly Uruguayan music as influences. Since then, she has released a number of other albums, which have garnered much critical acclaim and, since Tres Cosas (2002), international acclaim. This album was roughly in the New York Times critic's top 10 best album list of 2004 .
