Passenger (actually Michael "Mike" David Rosenberg ; born May 17, 1984 in Brighton ) is a British singer-songwriter .

Life

Mike Rosenberg learned to play the guitar as a child and began writing his own songs as a teenager. He made his first appearances at the age of 16.

Passenger was originally a joint project between Mike Rosenberg and composer Andrew Phillips. They merged in 2007 in Brighton and recorded the debut album Wicked Man's Rest with other musicians in the Phillips recording studio . The album itself didn't make it into the charts, but it got good reviews and made the band known. They have been hired by artists such as Kate Nash and The Hold Steady to perform for their opening act. You performed at SXSW in the USA in 2008 and were commissioned to write the music for the short film Where Have I Been All Your Life? to write.

The following year the collaboration with Philips ended, and Mike Rosenberg released the album Wide Eyes Blind Love alone under the name Passenger . He switched to the simple singer-songwriter guitar sound with folk and indie pop and toured as a simple street musician through Great Britain and Australia. The following year he recorded two albums, one of which consisted of pieces together with Australian musicians such as Kate Miller-Heidke , Boy & Bear and Matt Corby .

For his next album, Rosenberg relied on more technology and a more complex production. All the Little Lights was recorded in Sydney, Australia and completed in 2012. It was first released in Australia, where it reached number 9 on the album charts. After that it was also released in Europe and the USA. The big breakthrough came in the Netherlands in autumn of the same year. The song Let Her Go became a big hit there and also in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, reaching number one in both countries. The album was in the top ten. At the end of the year he went on an international tour with Ed Sheeran , whom he knew from his youth. In early 2013, Let Her Go was also number one in Sweden and number one in Ireland . In the German-speaking countries it also rose to number 1 in the single charts and the album reached the top ten in the respective album charts. In the USA the album could reach the Billboard 200 . At the same time he started his own tour through Europe and Australia.

In 2014, Passengers album Whispers and the first single Heart's on Fire were released . In 2016 the new album Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea was released , and in 2017 the album The Boy Who Cried Wolf .

Passengers Youtube channel had around 5.6 million subscribers, 233 videos and 3,150,000,000 views in February 2020. With his song Let her go , he was number 19 of the most viewed YouTube videos . Passenger had around 440,000 followers on Twitter , over 400,000 subscribers and around 550 posts on Instagram .

At the beginning of 2020, Passenger had around 9.5 million monthly listeners on the Spotify streaming service .
