The Hold Steady is an American indie rock band from New York .

Band history

After his band Lifter Puller broke up in Minneapolis in 2000, singer and guitarist Craig Finn moved to New York, where two years later, together with ex-bandmate Tad Kubler, drummer Judd Counsell and bassist Galen Polivka, he was all experienced musicians In his mid thirties, founded The Hold Steady . Her debut album Almost Killed Me was released a year later . The album was positively received by critics but was not a huge commercial success. The same was true for album number two, Separation Sunday .

Several changes followed, after which Bobby Drake took over the position of drummer and Franz Nicolay joined as keyboard player. In addition, the band changed labels and signed with Vagrant Records . Their third album in three years, Boys and Girls in America , then brought their first presentable successes. It was a top 5 hit on the Heatseekers charts and even made it onto the official Billboard 200 album charts in the USA for two weeks.

The Hold Steady then took the step to Europe with the album Stay Positive . It was released on July 14th and 15th, 2008 in Great Britain and the USA, and while it was just as successful in their home country as its predecessor, they were able to enter the UK charts straight away at number 15.

On January 23, 2010 the band announced on their homepage that their keyboardist Franz Nicolay had left the band.
