Rajec (German Rajetz , Hungarian Rajec ) is a city with around 6000 inhabitants in northwestern Slovakia .
geography
It is located in the Rajčanka valley and is 20 km south of the town of Žilina .
history
The place was in 1193 in a document for the first time as Raich mentioned and already had in the Middle Ages , the market law ; crafts flourished in the city.
Attractions
The market square is lined with only a few historical buildings, such as the Renaissance town hall , on which the traces of the Baroque transformation from the 18th century have been removed during the latest restoration work. The Gothic parish church, built in the 14th century , was also given a baroque exterior in the 18th century. A plaque commemorates Juraj Slota (1819–1892, Professor of Matica slovenská ) on the arcade house on the south side of the church .
