Kľače (until 1927 Slovak "Kľačany"; Hungarian Kalacsány - until 1907 Klacsan or Klacsán ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 420 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The village is located in the southwest part of the Žilinská kotlina basin on the right bank of the Rajčanka . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 420 m nm and is two and a half kilometers from Rajec and 18 kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring municipalities are Zbyňov in the north, Konská in the east, Kamenná Poruba in the southeast, Rajec in the south and Jasenové in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1511 as Kletzen and was owned by the noble families Praznovszky and Kalacsány as well as part of the Lietava Castle . In 1598 there were eight houses in the village, in 1784 the village had 18 houses, 21 families and 137 inhabitants. In 1828 there were 16 houses and 205 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918, the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then belonged to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Kľače had 367 inhabitants, 360 of whom were Slovaks and one each from Poland and one Czech . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
331 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church. 14 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 22 residents has not been determined.

Kľače has a stop on the Žilina – Rajec railway and is located directly on the 1st order road 64 between Žilina and Rajec.
