Mojš (until 1927 Slovak "Moyš"; Hungarian Majosfalva - until 1907 Moys , at times also Mois ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1234 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The community is located in the middle of the Žilinská kotlina basin on the right bank of the Váh , dammed here since 1998 in the Žilina reservoir. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 346 m nm and is seven kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring municipalities are Nededza in the north, Gbeľany in the northeast, Žilina ( Mojšova Lúčka district ) in the south and Teplička nad Váhom in the northwest.
history
Mojš was first mentioned in writing in 1419 as Vasarfalua , other historical names are Vassanfalua or Mayusfalwa (1438), Moysfalwa (1504) and Moys (1526). It was owned by the noble families Mojs and Záborszky . In 1598 there were eight houses in the village, in 1720 there were nine taxpayers. The first census in 1784 determined 26 houses, 33 families and 189 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 26 houses and 267 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and livestock, but also secured their income through rafting and seasonal work.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Mojš had 662 inhabitants, 632 of whom were Slovaks and four Czechs. 26 residents gave no answer. 544 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, five residents for the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each for the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Congregational Church and the Reformed Church; seven residents professed a different denomination. 70 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
economy
The economy in the village itself is still characterized by agriculture and small businesses, but the Kia Motors Slovakia automobile plant has been located north of the village since 2006 .

traffic
Mojš can be reached either by a 3rd order road towards Varín or by a local road built at the same time as the Žilina reservoir, which connects the town directly with Žilina. The Košice – Žilina railway runs through the municipality , with the nearest train stations in Varín (2.3 km) and Žilina (7.2 km)
There is a pedestrian bridge over the reservoir that connects the place with Mojšova Lúčka on the opposite side.
