Kamenná Poruba (Hungarian Kővágás - until 1907 Kőporuba ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1848 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The community is located in the Rajecká kotlina basin , a sub-unit of the larger Žilinská kotlina on the Porubský creek . In the south, the municipality merges into the southern foothills of the Little Fatra . The center of the village is at an altitude of 484 m nm and is five kilometers from Rajecké Teplice and 19 kilometers from Žilina .
history
The place was probably created in the early 14th century after it was separated from Konská and is mentioned in writing for the first time in a document of the Neutra convent as Stephanburbaya and at that time belonged together with Stránske to the Balog family , later to Kardos . The current name appears in 1511 in the form Kewporuba , which indicates a foundation on the stony ground in a forest clearing. Families from the lower nobility lived in the village and were under the control of Lietava Castle . In 1543 there were 13 farming families, ten serfs and two bailiffs. In 1828 there were 102 houses and 709 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Kamenná Poruba had 1823 inhabitants, 1793 of whom were Slovaks, two Czechs and one Russian; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 26 residents gave no answer. 1746 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Evangelical Church AB and one to the Orthodox Church; one resident was of a different denomination. 21 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 44 residents was not determined.
