Hričovské Podhradie (Hungarian Ricsóváralja - until 1907 Hricsóváralja ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 355 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Okres Žilina , a district of the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located on the edge of the Súľovské vrchy mountains at the transition to the Považské podolie valley . The Závadský stream , a left tributary of the Waag, flows through the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 325 m nm and is six kilometers from Bytča and 14 kilometers from Žilina .
history
The early history of the place is connected with the Hričov castle ; a place was mentioned in writing in 1265 as Hrichou , but today's village appears as Waralya only in 1469 and was part of the small estate of the eponymous castle. After the castle was destroyed in the 16th century, the village became part of the Bytča estate, who ran a farm here. In 1770 there were two water mills, in 1828 there were 29 houses and 256 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in agriculture and forestry. There was a limestone quarry in the 19th century.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Hričovské Podhradie had 372 inhabitants, 366 of them Slovaks and one Moravian and one Czech. Four residents made no statement. 348 inhabitants belonged to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each belonged to the Evangelical Church AB, Evangelical Methodist Church and the Greek Catholic Church. Six residents had no denomination and the denomination of 15 residents has not been determined.
