Zbyňov (Hungarian Zebény - until 1907 Zbinyó ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 873 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the southwest part of the Žilinská kotlina basin , mainly on the left bank of the Rajčanka . Part of the community has a share in the western mountains of Súľovské vrchy . The center of the village is at an altitude of 430 m nm and is five kilometers from Rajec and 17 kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring municipalities are Lietavská Svinná-Babkov in the north, Rajecké Teplice in the northeast, Konská in the east, Kľače in the south, Jasenové in the southwest and Súľov-Hradná in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1407 as Izben and was part of the estate of Lietava Castle . At that time, István , Lambert's son , judge of Rajec, was the tester of Zbyňov. In 1545 there was a fortified country castle in the village. In 1598 there were 19 houses in the village, in 1828 there were 64 houses and 592 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, beekeepers and farmers. The first school was founded in 1909.
Until 1918, the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then belonged to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 836 residents lived in Zbyňov, including 826 Slovaks and one Czech . One resident indicated another ethnic group and eight residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
771 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses; one resident professed a different denomination. 32 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 25 residents has not been determined.
