Paština Závada (Hungarian Pásztorzávod - until 1907 Pastinazávada ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 234 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located on the western edge of the Žilinská kotlina basin in the valley of the Závadský creek , with western and southern parts of the municipality extending into the Súľovské vrchy mountains . The town center is located at an altitude of 380 m nm and is eight kilometers from Bytča and 15 kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring municipalities are Dolný Hričov in the north, Ovčiarsko in the northeast, Bitarová in the east, again Dolný Hričov (district Peklina ) in the south, Súľov-Hradná in the southwest and Hlboké nad Váhom and Hričovské Podhradie in the west.
history
A settlement of the Iron Age Puchau culture as well as a Slavic settlement from the 7th and 8th centuries was located near today's location .
The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1402 as Zawadka and was probably created in the first half of the 14th century under German law. The village belonged to the territory of the Hričov Castle , later to the Bytča estate and partly to the Madocsányi estate . In 1598 there was a mill and 15 houses in Paština Závada. In 1720 11 taxpayers lived in the village, in 1784 the village had 24 houses, 26 families and 137 inhabitants. In 1828 there were 35 houses and 239 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, cattle keepers and forest workers.
Until 1918, the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then belonged to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Paština Závada had 233 residents, 227 of whom were Slovaks . Six residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
221 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, four residents the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB. One resident had no denomination and four residents had no denomination.
