Nededza (Hungarian Vágnedec - until 1907 Nedec ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1052 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .
geography
The village is located at the transition from the Kysucká vrchovina mountains to the Žilinská kotlina basin at the lower end of the Kotrčiná dolina valley . It is traversed by the Kotrčiná stream (locally called Nededzský potok ) in the Waag river system. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 381 m nm and is eight and a half kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring municipalities are Kotrčiná Lúčka in the north, Dolný Vadičov and Horný Vadičov in the northeast, Gbeľany in the east, Mojš in the south and Teplička nad Váhom in the west.
history
Nededza was first mentioned in writing as Nedecz in 1384 ; Names handed down later are Nedecza (1483) and today's Nededza (1598). The place was initially owned by the local Nedecký family and later became part of the Starý hrad estate (literally "Old Castle"). In 1598 there were 32 houses with a total of 422 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 35 houses and 506 inhabitants who lived on agriculture and livestock. Around the middle of the 19th century, members of the Pongrácz and Nyáry families lived in the village as well as a few small aristocrats, the rest consisted of poor farming families.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 978 people lived in Nededza, 967 of them Slovaks and one German; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. Nine residents gave no answer. 912 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, three residents the Evangelical Church AB and two residents each for the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church; four residents professed a different denomination. 29 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 23 residents has not been determined.
